Marie A. Gomez

East Longmeadow – Marie A. Gomez passed away peacefully on January 10, 2019 surrounded by family at CareOne at Redstone, in East Longmeadow. Marie was born on March 8, 1927 in Utica, NY to the late William and Mary (Prester) Manch. Marie grew up in Brattleboro, VT spending much time at their family owned business and cottage on Spofford Lake in New Hampshire. She moved to Springfield, MA in 1955 with her husband Dan, where they started a family. They also enjoyed spending time at their home on Cape Cod which provides many fond memories for their children and grandchildren. After Dan’s retirement, they wintered in Florida for many years. Marie spent much of her life devoted to her family and raising her children. She was as a member of the St. Mary’s Women’s Club, Samuel Bowles PTO, and East Springfield Athletic Association In addition to her parents, Marie was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years Daniel Gomez; her son William F. Gomez; and her brother Anthony Manch. She is survived by her son Daniel P. Gomez and wife Margaret of East Longmeadow; her daughter Susan M. Niles and husband Richard of Southwick; her 7 grandchildren Melissa Gomez, Daniel J. Gomez and his wife Katie, Courtney Gomez, Matthew Niles, Jessica Niles, William T. Gomez and Kelly Gomez; her 2 great-grandchildren Bailey Marie and Andrew; her sister Joan Holbrook of Brattleboro, VT; and many nieces and nephews and extended family. Marie’s family will receive friends Tuesday January 15, 2019 from 8:30am to 10:30am at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main Street, East Longmeadow. Funeral services will follow beginning at 10:30am at the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30am at St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple Street, East Longmeadow. Committal services will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Memorial Contributions may be made the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
