Marie Antoinette (Profiglio) Douthwright, 95, formerly of Springfield / Agawam, MA, and New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away on June 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and caregivers. Marie was born in Springfield, MA on December 8, 1927, to the late Peter F. and Beatrice E. (LaBranche) Profiglio.
Marie was a 1945 graduate of Commerce High School. She then started work in Arlington, VA at the Pentagon. Upon her return to MA, she worked as a secretary at Western Mass Electric and completed secretarial school. She was then promoted after receiving her real estate license to a position in which she reviewed property that Northeast Utilities would need to buy for future expansion — a position not often held by a woman at that time.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling the globe with her husband of 42 years. She often spoke of their time in Hawaii, Australia, South America, and Europe.
Marie was a dedicated Catholic and a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea in New Smyrna Beach, FL. She prayed daily, enjoyed saying the rosary, and giving back to her community as a Hospice volunteer in FL.
Marie was an amazing baker often making pies, lemon squares, and muffins for family gatherings. She was an avid sewer and an award-winning quilter of decorative wall hangings, bed coverings, and small handbags. She also enjoyed singing, Italian food, and dining at the Beacon restaurant.
Predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Raymond P. Douthwright who passed away in 2018; her sister Frances M. (Profiglio) Silvestri (2017) and her husband Arnold L. Silvestri (1995), she leaves her loving step-children, grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, long-time friends, and loving caregivers.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10 - 11 AM at Colonial Forastiere Funeral & Cremation, 985 Main Street, Agawam, MA. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at 12 Noon at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, Agawam followed by committal services in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA.
