Obituary

Maddalena “Madeline” Angela (Pellegrini) Dimauro, 90, of Agawam, went for the gate of Heaven on Wednesday, Nov 7th after a 6 years battle with Alzheimers.  She was born in Wilbraham on April 21, 1928 to Domenico and Teresa (Freddi) Pellegrini.   She graduated from Commerce High School in 1946.   She was employed in the Disbursements Dept. of New England Telephone & Telegraph. She also was a personal secretary at Springfield Coal Co. and was employed during WW II at the Springfield Armory, making receivers for the Springfield  M1 Garrand rifle. She married Alfredo S. Dimauro in 1950 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Springfield. They lived in the Six Corners Area of Springfield, then moved to Forest Park until they moved to Longmeadow in 1971.   They lived on Sheffield Avenue for 35 until they retired to Castle Hills condos in Agawam in 2002. Madeline served on the Commerce H.S. Class of '46' reunion Committee for many years. She played softball while working at the Telephone Co. enjoyed Candle Pin and Ten Pin Bowling, and was a member of the Golden Chippers Senior Mixed Couple’s Golf League at East Mountain Golf Course & Franconia Senior Women’s Golf  League at Franconia G.C. Maddalena was also an ardent bridge player, a NASCAR racing fan watching and attending the Daytona 500 & rooting for her favorite No.3 The Intimidator Dale  Earnhardt.  She loved to cook and was a gourmet chef. She also spent every morning doing the Newspaper daily crossword puzzles, and was a Maitre’ d for the Dimauro Family restaurant “Pasta Fina” in Longmeadow.  She was a former member of the Springfield Women’s Club & YWCA Women’s Club. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist for many years, she and Fred being two of the first lay people to do so.  She was also a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Women’s Guild. She especially enjoyed her weekly hair parlor “rap” sessions at the Hair Shack, in East Longmeadow. The Dimauro snowbirds flocked to Florida for almost 20 years, staying in Pompano, Punta Gorda, Captain’s Cove, Pine Island, Fort Myers and Cape Coral and had maintained contact with many social, golfing and other friends there.  She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers – Bortolomeo Pellegrini in 1934, Ermengildo Pellegrini in 1981 and Bortolo Pellegrini in 1998, and son-in-law Richard Lidwin in 1996.  Maddalena leaves her husband of 68 years, Alfredo (Fred) of Hampden, two sons, Vincent (Patricia) and Alfredo Jr (Marie), two daughters Dianne Lidwin and Gina Dunn (Andrew), her precious grandchildren, Julie, Matthew (Ashley), Daniel, Elena, Alfredo III “Tripper” (Jenn), Elisa and her fiancé Evan Burns, Alexander, Vincenzo, and Tiffany (Zach) and 2 great grandsons Connor and Jac.   She also leaves 2 sister-in-laws (Nivea and Ann Marie Dimauro) and nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces and many cousins, including many in Brescia and Sortino, Italy. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, November 12th from 3-6PM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Madeline’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 13th from the funeral home at 8:45AM followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10AM. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield.
