Luigia Basile

LONGMEADOW – Luigia (Grimaldi) Basile, 85, of Longmeadow, MA passed away at home on September 12, 2018. Luigia was born March 10, 1933 in Bracigliano, Italy to the late Francesco and Maria Grimaldi. She and her husband, Terigi Basile immigrated to the United States on March 9, 1963, just one day shy of her 30th birthday. She was employed at Milton Bradley in East Longmeadow as a toy assembler for 15 years until her retirement in 1997. Luigia was known for her strong yet kind nature, ability to make people smile, and always being up for an adventure. She enjoyed walking, nature, cooking, and spending time in her garden. Most importantly Luigia loved and adored her family. In addition to her parents, Luigia was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Terigi Basile in 1999; her brother, Andrea Grimaldi; and her sister, Antonia Vona. Luigia leaves behind her four loving children, son, Alfonso Basile of Longmeadow; daughters, Anna Maria Athens and her husband James of Wilbraham, Silvana Doherty and her husband Jim of Feeding Hills, and Antonietta Calento and her husband Paul of Longmeadow. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Joshua and Matthew Doherty, and Mathewos Calento. Family and friends are invited to attend a visiting hour on Monday, September 17th from 8-9AM at Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow followed by a Funeral Mass at 10AM in Our Lady of Mt.
