Obituary

Joan (Borgatti) Yacovone, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 21, 2023, at the Residence at Valley Farm Memory Care Facility in Ashland, MA.

Joan was born in Springfield and attended Commerce High School, where she graduated second in her class and was a member of a Springfield Catholic Girls Club, where she was crowned queen of her senior class. In her teenage years, she enjoyed roller skating at Riverside Park (now Six Flags) in Agawam.
Although Joan never attended college, she excelled in several business endeavors, including an Avon lady, a Kelly girl, selling Bee-Line clothes, a stenographer, a realtor, and hosting Tupperware and home décor parties. She enjoyed playing golf, skiing, boating, and traveling the world with the love of her life, her predeceased husband of sixty-four years, Philip Yacovone.
Joan and Philip were members of the Springfield Yacht Club in Chester, CT, and enjoyed navigating the waterways of the CT River and Long Island Sound. Joan and Philip spent their winters in Ft. Myers, FL, where they were members of the Estero Island Beach Club.

A resident of East Longmeadow since 1960, Joan spent her latter career as an Account Executive at Pension Associates in Springfield, MA, where she retired at the young age of sixty. She enjoyed being a member of the Red Hatters and got to participate in dance performances at venues, such as the Big E in West Springfield. Joan was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church.

Joan was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Agnes (Domaigne) Borgatti; a sister, Jean O’Flaherty and niece, Kathy.

Joan is survived by two sons, David Yacovone of Springfield and Michael Yacovone of Westerly, RI, and his long-time partner Danell Trinceri Tavella of East Longmeadow; a daughter Lynne Bowler and her husband Joseph of Holliston, MA; two grandchildren, Daniel Bowler and his wife Dr. Camille of Natick, MA, Alex Bowler and his wife Meaghan of Norfolk, MA; three great grandchildren, Owen, Liam, and Adeline Bowler and five nieces and nephews, Linda, Cindy, Cheri, Laurie, and Christopher.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 7, 2023 in St. Michael’s Church, 128 Maple St., East Longmeadow. There are no calling hours. Inurnment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield. Immediately following services, relatives and friends are invited to join Joan's family to celebrate her life at La Cucina di Hampden House, 1 Allen Street, Hampden, MA.
