Obituary

Enfield – D. Irving Conrad, 84, died suddenly on Monday, February 11, 2019 as a result of injuries sustained from a fall at home. He was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to the late Charles T. Conrad III and Elizabeth (Corbin) Conrad on July 12, 1934. He graduated from St. Patrick’s Boys High School in Halifax, Nova Scotia and served in the Canadian Army. He went on to further his education at Springfield College graduating in 1962 and later earned his CAGS (Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies) from the University of Massachusetts. Irving served as Dean of Administration and Student Services at American International College for 45 years retiring in 2002. He also served on the Board of Directors at Willie Ross School for the Deaf and was honored with the Distinguished Trustee Award for many years of service to the school. He was an active participant in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. He used his skills in woodworking and carving to make 32 ceremonial academic maces for colleges and universities throughout the country. In addition to his parents, Irving was predeceased by his brother, Charles T. Conrad IV. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Marcia (Hart) Conrad; his sons, E. Kirke H. Conrad of Dedham, MA, and Scott A. C. Conrad and his wife Jeanne Trelease of East Longmeadow; 4 grandchildren, Nina, Kaleigh, Emily and Sarah; 3 sisters, Jean Jellett of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Dulcie Conrad of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Alice Heenan and her husband Peter of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, February 16th at 2:00PM at Christ Church Cathedral, 35 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irving’s memory may be made to Western Massachusetts Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 1 Arch Rd., Suite 5, Westfield, MA 01085.
