Obituary

Carmella (Scannapieco) Goodrow, 97, peacefully ascended into the journey of everlasting life in the gentle presence of angels on August 10, 2018, surrounded by her caring and loving family. Carmella was the devoted wife of 40 years to the late Homer “Al” Goodrow who predeceased her in 1988. She was also predeceased by her parents, Gaspare Scannapieco and Josephine (DeRosa) Scannapieco; and a brother, Burt Scannapieco. Born in Quindici, Province of Avellino, Italy, Carmella immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 years and became a citizen shortly thereafter. She was a resident here for over 80 years. Carmella was a highly talented seamstress, prior to her employment by American Bosch during the war effort of WW II.  Carmella was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Women’s Guild, the Sisters of Columbus, and the Recording Secretary for the South End Golden Age Club.

Carmella is survived by her sister Rita Veale of Springfield; two sons, Michael G. Goodrow of Springfield, Thomas A. Goodrow and wife Lynn, Amherst; two daughters, Rita A. Goodrow, Marilyn Mathieson both of Springfield; 7 grandchildren, Anthony Goodrow, Alyssa Davis, Tommy Goodrow, James Mathieson, Mark Mathieson, Allyn Mathieson, Gayle Mathieson; 3 great grandchildren, Gracie, Amelia, Lucy.

Carmella was an amazingly generous, compassionate, and loving woman who profoundly touched the lives of so many people, including numerous relatives, nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 123 William St., Springfield.  Carmella will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield.

The family will gather and receive friends from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, August 17, 2018 in the funeral home.
