Obituary

Longmeadow- Anthony J. Marino, Jr. (Tony), 73, passed away on October 14, 2019, after a valiant battle with cancer.

Born in Springfield, he was the son of Eva Marie (Serafini) Marino of Springfield; and the late Anthony J. Marino, Sr. He was the loving husband of Tamara (Tupler) Marino. Tony was a resident of Longmeadow for over 40 years.

Tony graduated from Cathedral High School in 1963, University of Massachusetts (Amherst) in 1967, and received his Master’s Degree from George Washington University.

Tony served his country, stateside, in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War.

He attended Officer Candidate School and was stationed at the Pentagon from 1968-1972.

Tony was a partner of Lawson, Marino & Bertera Insurance Agency, Inc. (formed in 1975); specializing in employee benefits. Over the next 40 years, the agency grew to be one of the largest privately owned benefit companies in New England.

Tony loved spending time with family and friends. He hosted many gatherings around his pool, and enjoyed family game nights. Tony also enjoyed golf, weekly poker games, crossword puzzles, movies, and was an avid reader. He was a passionate investor, and had a vast knowledge of both historical and current events. He also liked his New England Patriots and UMass Minutemen. Tony and Tamara frequently vacationed in Palm Springs, California, where they married on November 21, 2000.

In addition to his wife of 19 years, and his mother, Tony is survived by a son, Anthony J. Marino III and his wife Allie of Longmeadow; a daughter, Terri Shorey and her husband Steven of Tolland, CT; his siblings, Robert Marino and his wife Mary of Springfield, Linda Mentor and her husband John and John Marino and his wife Cathy, all of Longmeadow. He also leaves five grandchildren, Carli, Alexandra and Anthony (IV) Marino, and Kevin and Natalie Shorey, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Tony loved his family and was proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He will be greatly missed for his guidance, unselfish and easygoing nature, intellect, humor, and loving ways.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 21, 2019, at the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield.

Calling hours are from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2019, at the funeral home.
